I’m doing some restoration on a 1950s Korean souvenir jacket. It is pretty banged up but a beautiful example of this kind of jacket and embroidery.
Both the Korean and Japanese versions of these jackets have eagles and tigers, and-or dragons, in different arrangements on the body and sometimes sleeves. It’s common to see a map with place names on the back.
This one is reversible, one side wool and the other silk satin. The fabric is worn out in places but the fine silk thread embroidery is completely intact.
I haven’t seen that many, but often the designs are bolder and the work more heavy handed.
