measurements

A good way to get the right measurements for a custom shirt is directly from a shirt that fits you well. Just follow the list below.

Alternately, you can take body measurements corresponding to these. Ease is added to body measurements, so make sure to specify which you are using—from you, or from a shirt.

1. COLLAR

From the collar button to the far end of the buttonhole.

2. CHEST

Button the shirt and lay it flat. Measure from edge to edge, just below the armhole.

3. WAIST

With the shirt laid flat, from edge to edge at the waistline.

4. HIP

With the shirt laid flat, from edge to edge at the base of the shirt.

5. SHOULDER

From edge of collar to shoulder seam

6. BACK

The distance from one shoulder seam to the other, across back about 4” below the collar.

7. CUFFS

The length of the cuff, edge to edge.

8. SHIRT LENGTH

The front length is measured down the centre of the placket from the bottom of the collar stand to the bottom edge of the hem.

For the back, from the collar seam to the hem.

9. ARM/SLEEVE LENGTH

Lay the shirt back up with the sleeve extended. Measure from the centre back, about an inch below the collar, over the shoulder to the edge of  the cuff.

To measure sleeve length on the body, you’ll need help.  Put your hand on your hip, and have someone put the end of the tape at the base of the back of your neck, then over your shoulder and elbow to the point on your wrist where you like the cuff to end.
