Ernest Tubb and Frank Team wrote this country Christmas song in 1953. I have it on the LP Blue Christmas by Ernest and the Texas Troubadors.
I’m trimming my Christmas tree with teardrops
I’m crying ‘cause my darling’s far away
Since she sent back my presents and said we had to part
A million icy snowflakes have fallen on my heart
I’m throwing my dreams into the fire
And watching as they burn and disappear
I’m trimming my Christmas tree with teardrops
There’ll be no merry Christmas this year
Here’s Ernest and the Troubadors, probably around that time, in the back of Ernest’s Record Shop in Nashville.
The songs aren’t as good on Charley Pride’s Christmas In My Home Town,
but the cover picture makes it worth having.
There’s a few good country Christmas originals on Loretta Lynn’s Country Christmas, like Jackie Webb’s “Christmas Without Daddy”, and ” I Won’t Decorate Your Christmas Tree This Year”.
Christmas With Hank Snow from 1967 has a more upbeat Christmas song Hank recorded in 1953, produced by Steve Sholes. “Reindeer Boogie” was co-written by 4′ 8″ radio dj “Peanut” Faircloth, with Tommy Vaden on fiddle and Joe Talbot on steel guitar. In this youtube video, it’s set to 50s animation.
